Salt Lake City has just been named the fifth city in Kiplingers Personal Finance Magazine, "10 Best Cities for the New Decade".  Joining Salt Lake City in the Top ten are Austin, TX, Seattle, WA, Washington DC, Boulder, CO, Rochester, MN, Des Moines, IA, Burlington, VT, West Hartford CN, and Topeka, KS. 

Kiplinger notes that they focused on places that specialized in out-of-the-box thinking. "New ideas generate new businesses," says Kevin Stolarick, research director at the Martin Prosperity Institute, a think tank that studies economic prosperity. "In the places where innovation works, it really works," he says.

The innovation factor has three elements: smart people, great ideas and collaboration -- that really supercharges a city's economic engine. When governments, universities and business communities work together, the economic vitality is impressive.

Salt Lake City is noted for having a pro-business atmosphere driven by venture capital, a highly educated workforce and a low cost of living and doing business.
